Rinpoche has chosen a classical text by Shantideva for us to study for Dharma Discourses, so we can teach ourselves by being on the same page as this great Buddhist master. This is His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s favourite book and every Buddhist’s delight: ‘The way of the Bodhisattva’s life’ (Bodhicharya Avatara).
We will cover three verses (stanzas) each week. Each participant will talk for 8 minutes on those three verses using different translations and their own understanding. There are many Tibetan commentaries on this classical text which are now available in English. Rinpoche says there is no contradiction to use any translations from any schools, teachers or translators, and he encourages us to choose for ourselves (thus Nalandra will not stock the text).
Rinpoche himself has taught on this text three times during his career in Australia. He says this is the most suitable text both for travellers who are embarking on the path to a jouyful life as well as those already on the path, to discover the beauty of the journey to Buddhahood. The merits of studying and contemplating on this book are as deep as the ocean or as vast as the sky, and will generate timeless good fortunes in many lives to come. Rinpoche will help us to establish this new system of Dharma Discourses so that it can continue during his sabbatical leave.
Dharma discourses is on Saturdays at 10:00am –12pm. It is followed by a shared morning tea/light lunch and then meditation guided by Rinpoche at 12:30pm.
On Saturday 24 March students taught on the first three verses. Verses 4, 5 and 6 will be covered on 3 March.
Join us for this awe-inspiring opportunity to teach the Dharma from one’s own mind to unbury the wisdom within.
Suggested donation for meditation is $20/$10.
